About This Product
The Fire Environment product provides a comprehensive index indicating potential for wildfire. It combines fuel loads and weather parameters by comparing those against climatologies of the Red Flag Threat Index (RFTI) for weather conditions and the Energy Release Component (ERC) for Type G fuel loads. Higher values indicate historically rarer conditions, signaling the presence of both dangerous fire weather conditions and greater fuel loads.
The Forecast Fire Environment product for Day 3 is based on forecast RFTI and ERC values and displays forecast wind barbs, all valid for 3 PM Central Time the day after tomorrow. This product is updated every 15 minutes.
