Current Fire Environment with Afternoon ERC

Map of the Fire Environment parameter across Oklahoma based on forecast Energy Release Component values as of 3 PM local time today, with current wind barbs.

About This Product

The Fire Environment product provides a comprehensive index indicating potential for wildfire. It combines fuel loads and weather parameters by comparing those against climatologies of the Red Flag Threat Index (RFTI) for weather conditions and the Energy Release Component (ERC) for Type G fuel loads. Higher values indicate historically rarer conditions, signaling the presence of both dangerous fire weather conditions and greater fuel loads.

The Current Fire Environment with Afternoon ERC product is based on current RFTI values with the ERC forecast for 3 PM Central Time this afternoon and displays observed wind barbs. This product, including the wind barbs, is updated every 15 minutes.
