Surface instruments, collection and quality control of weather data, and outreach

Cindy Luttrell is a meteorologist for the Oklahoma Mesonet.  Born and raised in Oklahoma, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma in 2005.  As part of her job, Cindy ensures the collection and quality of weather data from automated weather stations across Oklahoma.  Cindy also helps recruit and manage volunteer precipitation observers in Oklahoma for the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS).

When Cindy first started college, she wanted to be a forecaster.  However, after starting a student job with the Oklahoma Mesonet, Cindy realized that she really preferred to work with weather data.  Cindy enjoys helping with outreach activities and teaching others about meteorology.  She regularly provides tours of the Mesonet observation tower to students and teachers from all over Oklahoma.

In her spare time, Cindy enjoys watching her son play sports and playing games with her daughter.  Cindy really enjoys being outside, especially on warm, sunny days and often goes on long runs when the weather is nice.
