What does climate change mean for Oklahoma? This will be among the topics of discussion at the National Conversation on Climate Action in Tulsa, this Friday, October 5 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. Similar Town Hall conversations will be taking place in 60 cities across the United States. The town hall meetings are coordinated by Yale University, ICLEI, and the Association of Science-Technology Centers. The Tulsa event is sponsored by the Mayor's Office of the City of Tulsa and the National Energy and Environmental Law & Policy Institute at The University of Tulsa College of Law.
Opening remarks will be given by the Honorable Kathy Taylor, Mayor of Tulsa. Gary McManus, Assistant State Climatologist at the Oklahoma Climatological Survey, will lead the discussion on the scientific view of climate change and will be joined by Betin Santos from the ICLEI South Central Region and Professor Irma Russell, who will present on Legal and Policy Issues of Climate Action.
The National Conversation on Climate was created to engage communities in discussions about mitigation and adapting to climate change. Each local town hall will bring together diverse stakeholders, including city officials and leaders from the business, environmental, and faith communities, to build local awareness of the problem and support for local action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The event will take place at the University of Tulsa, John Rogers Hall, 3120 E. 4th Place in Tulsa, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm.
