Daytime Activities for Participants Guests
The Mesonet 2002 International Institute will provide interesting
daytime activities for our participants families and
guests. On Monday, June 24th, guests have the opportunity
to visit The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History,
located on the Norman campus of the University of Oklahoma.
The museum first opened its doors to the public on May 1,
2000. It is the permanent home for 6 million artifacts and
specimens, with extensive collections of Native American artifacts.
The new facility, with 195,000 square feet, 50,000 of which
are dedicated to exhibits, is the largest university-based
museum in the nation. For additional information about current
exhibits, please visit www.snomnh.ou.edu.
Before the tragic day of September 11th, Oklahoma experienced
the worst act of terrorism our nation had ever seen. On the
morning of April 19, 1995, a massive bomb inside a rental
truck exploded in front of the Alfred P. Murrah building killing
168 men, women, and children. At the site of the Alfred P.
Murrah building stands a beautiful memorial to those lost
and those who survived this act. The Mesonet 2002 staff will
accompany guests to the Oklahoma City National Memorial on
the morning of Tuesday, June 25th. For additional information,
please visit www.oklahomacitynationalmemorial.org.
During the afternoon of Tuesday, June 25th, guests may visit
the Oklahoma City Zoo, the Omniplex, or Remington Park Raceway.
All three attractions are located within walking distance
of each other. Mesonet 2002 staff will accompany registered
guests to the area and they may choose any, or all, sites
to visit. Purchase of tickets for this afternoon will be completed
on an individual basis. For additional information, please
visit the following web sites: www.okczoo.com,
www.omniplex.org,
and www.remingtonpark.com.
You may purchase tickets for your family or guests for daytime
activities, on the Mesonet 2002 International Institute registration
page. You also may purchase tickets up to the departure time
of each activity, but cash or check will be the required form
of payment. We encourage participants to pre-purchase tickets
when possible.
