Workshops

The Oklahoma Climatological Survey and the Oklahoma Mesonet have offered summer teacher workshops since 1992. Staff realized that many teachers had not taken earth science classes during their college years. However, many elementary and middle school curriculums include a weather unit and high school physics and chemistry classes deal with concepts like phase change, heat transfer, etc. Without a knowledge base in earth science to draw from, teaching weather was a challenge. Our workshops are a mechanism for teachers to build that knowledge base in the atmospheric realm of earth sciences.

Below you will find a list of upcoming teacher workshops offered or co-sponsored by the Oklahoma Climatological Survey.

EarthStorm Workshop

The EarthStorm Workshop is a free four-day workshop for new participants and a free two day workshop for returning participants which provides an opportunity for teachers to investigate weather. Each participant will be provided with a variety of hand out materials.

The workshop is limited to 30 participants. Oklahoma participants are eligible for travel reimbursement. Participants will be kept informed if funding support is unavailable due to changes in the State Budget. Teachers from other states are eligible to attend but OCS is unable to provide financial support for travel, hotel, or meals.
